Second request for advice.
Can anyone advise me on a good ball jig? I am trying to make balls for the pub skittles team that I play in and I am not getting them quite round enough by eye. I would appreciate any advice on turning balls and whether there are any jigs that can be purchased.
Thanks.

What size balls are you making? I have a jig (or more correctly a Sphere Cutting Rig CH350!) which I believe came from Craft Supplies before their demise. You are welcome to borrow it if it is suitable - the only drawback is that you need to make your own arrangement to attach the rig to the lathe bed bar(s). If you have a Record CL3 then you're in luck!! I'll send photos if it helps.

Thanks Beeman for the reply and the offer. As it happens I do have a CL3! The balls are meant to be about 14cm in diameter but they don't end up that size when I try to turn them by eye!
If you are happy to lend me the rig I am more than happy to accept. If I get on with it I can then look to buy one for myself.

I think 14cm might just be beyond the limit of the rig. You may get away with 13.5cm. However, all is not lost! I think you could modify the rig using a piece of hardwood to extend the reach or even make your own. I recall seeing a demonstrator at Harrogate using a "homemade" one quite successfully . This morning I've "knocked out" a ball from a cherry log and taken some photos for you - I'll email them on to you (I think I can work out your identity) . Bonza!
