Hi, I'm a total novice at wood turning and as it's only taken me thirty year to "have a go" please don't rush me. I've seen a 6” faceplate suitable for my Record lathe; is it worth getting or is it something I'll end up never using? Remember I've nothing, not even a tailstock yet, so any offers of tools etc. would be most welcome ( you may have some duplicates that you want to "unload")
Thanks, all answers gratefully received. (Except the rude ones

I have a faceplate in my kit and must admit I rarely use it and that's possibly because I have a wood screw chuck .. However on occasions, such as yesterday, when I use the faceplate it proves very useful (attaching a flat piece to the lathe such as a "board" for some off centre turning). If the price is reasonable I would say "go for it" as there are times it would be useful. Check the thread is suitable for your lathe though as there is no such thing as a universal thread!!!!

Thanks Buzz at the moment it's about a tenner and it's the same make as the lathe, Record, and from what I can tell they only use one thread size. So thanks for the candid and useful advice.
